The Artist
Marc Potocsky is a master craftsman turned portrait artist whose work captures the inner intensity of cultural icons — from music legends to visionary leaders. With decades of experience in decorative arts, architectural finishes, marbling, and gold leaf, Marc brought that mastery of craft into fine art portraiture, creating oil paintings that are as much about energy as they are about likeness.
The Process
Every painting begins with research — understanding the subject's story, energy, and what they represent culturally. Marc works from reference but paints from feeling, building each portrait through dozens of transparent oil layers that create a quality of light that seems to come from within the canvas.
Most works take 4-8 weeks to complete. The studio is in constant evolution — new techniques, new subjects, new experiments in scale and medium.
Fine Art & Studio
Marc's practice spans two worlds: fine art portraiture and architectural decorative arts. The decorative studio work — plaster, marbling, murals, gilding, trompe l'oeil — built the technical foundation that makes the fine art possible. Craft became art. Art became legacy.
“I don't paint what someone looks like. I paint what they feel like to be near.”
